Do the hives ship fully assembled?

The hives ship fully assembled except for the legs and the bee porch. The legs attach to the hive using 3 screws on each leg. The bee porch attaches to the front of the hive using 2 screws. All necessary parts are included and ship with the hive.

Do the hives accept standard size frames?

Yes, they will accommodate deep frames that are 19 inches x 1-1/16 inches x 9-1/8 inches.

Do the hives come with frames and inner covers?

No, the hives do not come with frames or inner covers.

Do the hives come painted?

Yes, the outside of the hive is painted. The legs and the inside of the hive are not painted.

How much is shipping?

Shipping to states east of the Rockies is $175. West of the Rockies is $300. We do offer local pickup for residents in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Local pickup would be the customer picking up at our shop in North Carolina zip code 28615.

Do the hives work well in cold weather?

The Layens hive has been used in cold weather since the 19th century and the horizontal hive is a hybrid of this style.

How long will it take me to receive my hive?

Your order will be custom built to your specifications. We will start building your hive upon payment of your order. Once building starts, your hive will be shipped to you in 3-5 weeks.
